Season 4 – Bob “The Record Guy” Paxon

Released: January 13, 2024

About This Episode:

Bob the Record Guy In the Flamingo Lounge standing next to the Ramblin Lou 78 of “Ode to Hank Williams” a holy grail in my record collection.

This week’s guest In the Flamingo Lounge, Bob “The Record Guy” Paxon is the person most responsible for my love, and familiarity of local music. Bob joined me on January 3, 2024 to talk about his early days in music and passion for local music and collecting/selling records and music ephemera.

Bob is one of the most knowledgeable music collectors in Western New York, particularly with local, Buffalo-area records. He has carried on the mantle of collectors such as Bob Skurzewski, Bob Chapman and Jim Duffey and extended his knowledge into subsequent eras. Bob was a regular contributor to WNY.FM, a virtual museum of the music culture of the Buffalo/Niagara region of Western New York and contributed a feature on local 45 records from the 50’s and 60’s entitled “45 Fridays”.

What some people may not know is that Bob was also a member of Grim Reaper, the band that eventually evolved into Aunt Helen, the Toys and the New Toys, becoming one of Buffalo’s earliest punk/new wave bands. So, Bob has been a part of Western New York music history as well as collecting it!

Want to unlock the secrets of Buffalo’s musical past? Check out his great articles at WNYFM or visit Bob at his record store at 6067 Transit Rd, Depew, NY 14043 and scroll through his vinyl treasure trove. You might just discover your next favorite band, all thanks to The Record Guy himself.

You can also follow Bob the Record Guy on Facebook and check out all the new arrivals every Saturday.
