Jon Hasz and Cathryn “Cat” Curry Hasz; The Beard and the Bird, joined Rockabilly Greg In the Flamingo Lounge on September 7, 2023.
A bi-coastal duo, peddling their upbeat swing, folk, and outlaw country-inspired melodies from sunny San Diego traveled to Buffalo in search of Tim Hortons and some Canadian-style culture and found their second home.
Jon plays acoustic guitar but will bring a banjo, mandolin, or cello along if time permits and has been performing live and recording for over 20 years.
Cat is an introvert with stage fright and social anxiety, who can only be lured out to slap her bass with the promise of high-quality snacks. It took them 12 years to figure out that they could be dating and be in band without killing each other and are currently co-writing a new album!
Cat started actively playing bass just over a year ago (after a few years of strictly Christmas shows.) She started her live music career at age 16 in a punk band, which had one gig before breaking up. That short stint of passionate punk music life and three power chords led Cat to break a guitar string, which sent her to the local music store, and heartthrob Jon Hasz.
