Update 03.09.25: I attended the Grosh Album Release show on Friday March 7 at the Town Ballroom in downtown Buffalo. Below are my thoughts:

The show opened with an hour-long set from Uncle Ben’s Remedy, a rootsy, blues/rock band from Versailles, NY. They did not disappoint with their high energy set that included guest violinist/vocalist, Katie Clark. They even had a keytar!

Not to downplay UBR, but the night was about Grosh, and their long-awaited album. The core band of Megan Brown, (vocals), Grace Lougen (guitar/vocals), Josh English (drums) and Dylan Hund (bass) along with Zak Ward (guitar/vocals) and Harry Graser (Keys) thrilled the audience with a mix of songs old and new and a high energy set that included very little talking, and a LOT of music.

Now, I profess that I am not a gifted writer nor a major aficionado of music, but I can tell you the show blew me away. As I mentioned in the podcast, I had not seen the entire Grosh band in concert before. I picked a great show for my first venture. I was also very fortunate to have the honor to listen to the new music before the show.

Starting off with Megan, who wore the most mesmerizing sequined fringe dress – owned the stage. Her presence is one that shows pure joy and confidence performing on stage. And the power of her voice? – she can definitely hit the back row without a mic and she can definitely tell a story through their music.

As a short break from the high energy tunes, the guys left the stage and left Megan and Grace to perform a duet of “How Long You Gave” off the new album. Grace put down her beloved Gibson SG for an acoustic and performed a very moving version that had the crowd at the edge of their seats (or standing still).

Speaking of Grace, I have seen her perform many times with different groups including “Freightrain “and with Megan as “The Girls of Grosh”. I always knew she could play, but she proved she is a true guitar virtuoso because she not only played guitar, her guitar sang and told a story.

On drums, Josh is a powerhouse, incorporating many styles of drums, including the use of mallets that gave a little bit of a Gene Krupa vibe. He enthralled the crowd with a drum solo that was great to listen to. Most times, when you see a drum solo starting, you think “time to go get a beer” but Josh had everyone’s full attention.

Rounding out the band on bass is Dylan Hund. Being the bass player is not the sexiest position, but one of the most important. (I know I’ll get flack for that) Dylan’s bass lines locked in with Josh on a drums and kept the groove going and everyone in sync.

And I can’t forget the incredibly talented Zak Ward and Harry Graser as their presence on stage enhanced the core band.

Grosh is a force to be reckoned with. Go see them when you get a chance.
