Episode 24:

Season 9 – BloodThirsty Vegans

Released: August 22, 2026

About This Episode:

This week’s guests, Bloodthirsty Vegans, are a musical family that makes sweet, sweet music about peace, love, and understanding to unite the human family, foster respect for the interconnected web of life, and remind the tribes how liberating it was to dance the dances of freedom.

The Bloodthirsty Vegans’ style of music can only be categorized as “FUN!” It is built upon a foundation of Hip Hop, is geared toward getting people up and moving, and is lyrically charged with a deep consciousness, but beyond that, it kind of defies description.

Bloodthirsty Vegans members Janna Willoughby-Lohr, My Rap Name is Alex, Michael Delaney, and Rebecca Mercurio visited the Flamingo Lounge on August 10, 2026, and shared their stories and music.

Janna “MC Vendetta“ Willoughby-Lohr believes women should take up space, make noise, and never wait for permission. A longtime fixture in Buffalo’s music and art scene, she’s the frontwoman of BloodThirsty Vegans and Hooked on Casiophonics, and performs solo as MC Vendetta, blending punk, ska, spoken word, hip hop, and radical honesty into performances that are equal parts protest, party, and personal therapy. Her work celebrates the power and beauty of grief, she questions the rules, and reminds audiences that vulnerability can be revolutionary. When she’s not on stage, she’s usually making art at her award-winning company Papercraft Miracles, building subversive community, or finding new ways to challenge the idea that creativity has to fit neatly into a box.

My Rap Name is Alex lives in a Spaceship Made Out Of Tape and writes songs about Peace, Love Tolerance and Justice. He spends copious amounts of time writing books, making art, making videos, making music and smashing things with sledge hammers. Hobbies include lifting things that are too heavy to lift and writing things that can’t be written.

Michael Delaney is a retired math teacher, Union organizer, former Food Co-op coordinator, and New York City cab driver among other things. He was involved with the collection of musicians who morphed into the bloodthirsty vegans since 2002, although they didn’t use that name until 2005. He became active in the band again about 2 years ago after taking a temporary breather of about 12 years. He plays harmonica and sings a little bit. Like all other members, he is not allowed to quit permanently.

Rebecca Mercurio is a Buffalo native who bounced around bands, projects, states countries and continents for the first act of this life. She made a whole human and came back to land in her hometown to raise him. Another lifetime ago, she picked up the bass after a band member quit on tour with the rhythm and blues grass crew of Redheaded Stepchild and never looked back. She has rocked out with the Allison Pipitone band, jumped in with many projects outside of the Queen City, and most recently, dusted off the doghouse bass to vibe out with the Bloodthirsty Vegans.
